Balancing a demanding career, a growing family, and a postgraduate study requires more than discipline; it requires purpose. For EIT Student Ambassador Antonio Norberto, that purpose is shaping both his professional journey and his vision for a more sustainable future.
This article features EIT Student Ambassador Antonio Norberto and his experience as he progresses through his Master of Engineering (Mechanical) course, where he builds his expertise in mechanical systems and applies learning directly to real-world engineering practice.
Antonio Norberto brings a strong academic foundation and a clear sense of purpose to his journey in engineering. Originally from Angola, he has built an impressive multidisciplinary background, earning undergraduate qualifications in electromechanical engineering and mining engineering, alongside a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Bellevue University in the United States. Now pursuing EIT’s Master of Engineering (Mechanical), Antonio continues to expand his technical expertise while stepping into a leadership role as an EIT student ambassador. His motivation for volunteering is rooted in a simple goal, that is, to encourage current and aspiring engineering professionals to pursue further education and unlock greater professional opportunities through EIT.

Antonio Norberto’s professional journey began in academia and teaching, where he worked as a college instructor in thermodynamics and mathematics in his early career. During this time, he also contributed to volunteer initiatives that strengthened his commitment to knowledge-sharing and engineering education. From there, he transitioned into industry, building a broad career across multiple technical roles. He worked as a process engineer and production coordinator, gaining hands-on experience in engineering operations and multidisciplinary coordination. He now serves as a permit coordinator, continuing to apply this experience in a more structured operational role.
These experiences have given him a strong foundation in engineering operations and multidisciplinary coordination. He currently applies this experience at the Azule Energy – Greater Plutonio FPSO in Angola, where he works as a Control of Work Coordinator. In this role, he provides technical guidance, operational support, safety leadership, and Control of Work training to junior technicians and multidisciplinary teams.

What stands out in Antonio’s journey is how he integrates continuous learning into an already demanding professional and family life. He values the flexibility of EIT’s online learning model, which allows him to pursue his chosen course without stepping away from his career and family responsibilities. He also appreciates the accessibility of EIT’s wide range of engineering courses, including specialized programs in renewable energy, which align closely with his long-term goals and his vision for the future of engineering in Angola. Alongside his studies, Antonio also serves as an EIT student ambassador. In this role, he actively encourages colleagues and peers to pursue further engineering education through EIT, from which he draws on his own experience to motivate others.
His influence extends beyond the workplace, reaching into his personal life as well, where his wife, who is also an engineer, has been inspired to pursue a doctorate in engineering with EIT. Reflecting on his ambassador role, Antonio emphasizes the value of balance, mentorship, and encouragement: “EIT selected me as a student ambassador, and it has helped me influence others to improve their time management and balance family, work and study.”
Antonio Norberto’s role as an EIT student ambassador gives him a platform to promote education, innovation, and engineering as key drivers of progress. Through this role, he encourages fellow engineering professionals and students to pursue further studies and explore new opportunities within the field. Building on this foundation, his vision is closely tied to Angola’s energy future. He is particularly focused on addressing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels through the advocacy of sustainable engineering solutions. Antonio sees strong potential in renewable energy, especially wind and solar power, and is already exploring wind energy projects and their practical applications. “Angola has significant wind energy potential as a clean electric power source. As a student at EIT, I aim to deepen my knowledge of renewable energy technologies for my country’s sustainable future.”

Beyond his current work, Antonio is committed to expanding this advocacy further. Through his travels to countries such as Nigeria and Zimbabwe, he continues to engage with fellow engineering professionals and students, encouraging them to consider renewable energy opportunities and adopt more sustainable approaches to engineering practice. As Antonio approaches the final year of his studies at the Engineering Institute of Technology, he reflects with gratitude on how his journey has evolved. For him, he has gained not only advanced technical knowledge but also the ability to apply his learning directly in the workplace.
