This article discusses the role of engineers as expert witnesses in legal cases, focusing on the experience of Dr. Milind Siddhpura, a mechanical engineering expert who provided testimony regarding gel-blaster toy guns in a court case in New South Wales, Australia. Dr. Siddhpura’s expertise was sought by lawyers to investigate the pneumatic systems used in gel blaster guns. Before starting his investigation, Dr. Siddhpura declared to the lawyers that his research would be unbiased and that its conclusions would be based on scientific and engineering facts and analysis.
