Currently serving as an electrical, control, and instrumentation designer in the mining industry, Ilana Villani completed her 52727WA Advanced Diploma of Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Engineering in Mining at EIT in 2017.
In 2019, she enrolled part-time in the Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering) and is now in her final year. A working mother of two, Ilana values EIT for its flexibility. Passionate about renewable engineering, she aspires to inspire fellow parents and women in the industry.
“My background in the mining industry has equipped me with a unique perspective on both the practical and theoretical aspects of engineering,” Ilana explained. “These insights help me bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications, which I’m excited to share with others through my ambassadorship.”
Ilana’s decision to become a student ambassador stemmed from her desire to develop leadership skills and connect with professionals and peers. “It can be hectic, and sometimes the nights are long,” Ilana shared. “But having a well-organized schedule and support from family is essential. My fridge is covered with various schedules to keep track of everything from kids’ activities to academic deadlines.”
EIT’s flexible approach to education has been a significant advantage for Ilana. The ability to access recorded lectures and take online exams has allowed her to manage her time effectively, balancing her numerous commitments.

“My goal is to inspire others to consider renewable technologies and integrate sustainability into their engineering practices,” she noted.

“Don’t be discouraged by the challenges,” Ilana advised. “Research your field, choose a program that fits your schedule, and seek out support from both educational and personal networks. Stay organized and set clear goals.”
