Guiding Fellow Students and Prospective Engineers

Dragan Tisma, a Student Ambassador for the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT), has found great fulfillment in helping his fellow students navigate their educational journeys.

He believes in actively listening to their concerns, offering guidance, and connecting them to the resources they need for success. As someone who knows what it takes to succeed academically, Dragan provides support to others by sharing his experiences and making himself available for any questions or advice.

“What I enjoy most is connecting with students and offering them my support,” Dragan shared. “I make sure I’m always available for a chat, and I help connect them with the relevant resources that can guide them through their studies.”

His role as an ambassador allows him to play a key part in motivating prospective students to take the next step in their educational paths. He has particularly enjoyed witnessing their excitement and helping them visualize their future successes at EIT.

“The most fulfilling aspect has been connecting with prospective students and seeing their excitement about the possibilities at EIT,” Dragan explained. “I share my experiences and help them envision their own success.”

Real-World Experience and Practical Skills

Dragan’s background as a Completions Lead in the oil and gas industry has been an invaluable asset as he transitions into the field of electrical engineering.

His experience in managing complex systems and understanding the importance of safety and reliability has laid a strong foundation for his studies in the 52888WA Advanced Diploma of Applied Electrical Engineering (Power Industry).

“The skills I gained in the oil and gas sector gave me a solid understanding of complex systems and the importance of safety,” Dragan said.

“These principles have made it easier for me to understand the theoretical concepts in my electrical engineering studies. My background has provided me with a practical lens to approach what I’m learning.”

At EIT, the hands-on approach of the program has been key to helping him apply his knowledge in real-world scenarios. “EIT’s focus on practical skills through hands-on labs, industry-based case studies, and real-world applications has given me the confidence to tackle the challenges I face in my career,” he added.

Leadership and Collaboration in Academic and Professional Life

Dragan’s leadership experience in the oil and gas industry has been invaluable both in his studies and in his role as a student ambassador.

As a Completions Lead, he developed the ability to plan, coordinate, and motivate teams to achieve specific goals—skills that have proven essential in managing projects and collaborating with peers at EIT.

“I’ve applied my leadership skills to effectively manage projects, support my peers, and take initiative,” Dragan said. “I believe that leadership and collaboration are crucial for success in both my studies and my professional life. I’m always looking for ways to encourage teamwork and help others achieve their goals.”

His ability to lead by example has not only benefited his academic journey but has also helped create a supportive and collaborative community within EIT, making him a valuable ambassador for the student body.

The electrical industry’s role in powering modern society excites Dragan, particularly in the area of renewable energy. He sees sustainable power generation as the future of the industry, and his passion for these advancements is evident in his academic and professional goals.

“The electrical industry is the backbone of modern society,” he explained. “It powers our homes, industries, and technologies. As we transition to more sustainable energy practices, I see myself contributing by applying my skills to develop and maintain sustainable and safe practices within the power industry.”

Dragan is particularly excited about the ongoing advancements in renewable energy, which he believes will continue to reshape the power sector.

“The shift towards renewable power generation aligns perfectly with my vision for the future,” he shared. “I’m excited to be part of this transformation.”

Plans for Further Study and Professional Development

Looking ahead, Dragan plans to further his expertise by pursuing a project management course to complement his technical studies. Understanding project lifecycles, risk management, and resource allocation will be key to successfully implementing engineering projects in the industry.

Dragan recognizes that project management skills are essential for leading large-scale initiatives, both during his studies and in his future career.

“I plan to integrate project management principles into my studies and future career,” he said. “Project management will be crucial for me as I work on engineering projects, and I believe it will give me the tools to manage projects more effectively, whether in my studies or my future career.”

Dragan’s transition from the oil and gas sector to electrical engineering has given him a broader perspective on the energy industry. His experiences have fueled his passion for the power industry and the role electricity plays in shaping the world.

“The most significant impact of my transition has been the broader perspective I gained on the energy sector,” he reflected. “It has highlighted the increasing importance of electricity and the opportunities within the power industry, fueling my passion to be part of this change.”

Dragan’s journey from the oil and gas sector to electrical engineering demonstrates his adaptability and dedication to continuous learning.

As he works toward completing his Advanced Diploma and planning his next steps in the electrical power industry, he remains committed to developing his leadership skills and technical expertise. Through his role as a student ambassador, Dragan continues to inspire others and guide them toward success in their own educational and professional journeys.

“The power industry is evolving, and I’m excited to be part of that change,” he concluded. “I look forward to contributing to the industry’s future and helping others along the way.”
