Design & Prototyping – Think It. Design It. Make It.
Following the great success and positive feedback from previous EIT Design & Prototyping Bootcamps, we are excited to bring this hands-on engineering experience to the EIT Melbourne Campus in 7th July 2026.
This one-day bootcamp is designed for high school students who are interested in engineering, design, 3D printing, prototyping, and problem-solving. Students will work on a real-world design challenge and learn how to take an idea from concept to prototype using creative design thinking and practical engineering principles.
Students will work in teams to brainstorm ideas, sketch concepts, develop digital models, and prepare their designs for 3D printing. The day will conclude with a showcase where students present their solutions to the experts.
Event Details
- Date: Tuesday, 7th July 2026
- Time: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Location: EIT Melbourne Campus, Level 5/301 Flinders Ln, Melbourne VIC 3000
- Who Can Join: Year 9-10 high school students
- Inclusions: All learning materials and certificate of participation
- Afternoon Tea: Provided by EIT (please inform us of any allergies)
- Lunch: Students to bring their own Lunch and water bottle
- Tickets: $119 AUD inclusive of GST per student
This bootcamp is designed for students with an interest in design, engineering, and 3D printing. Prior experience in 3D printing or CAD is helpful but not essential, as students will be guided throughout the day.
Spots will be limited to ensure every student receives hands-on support and mentoring.
What to Expect
Students will take part in a structured, hands-on engineering design challenge. They will work in small teams and move through the full design process, including:
- Understanding the design problem
- Brainstorming creative solutions
- Sketching and developing ideas
- Creating digital models using CAD software
- Preparing a design for 3D printing
- Presenting the final concept to experts
The winning design will be selected based on creativity, engineering thinking, practicality, teamwork, and presentation quality.
Why Join
This bootcamp gives students a real taste of engineering design and prototyping. It helps students understand how engineers solve problems by combining creativity, technical knowledge, teamwork, and practical skills.
Participants will:
- Tackle a unique, constrained design challenge
- Apply creative problem-solving and engineering knowledge
- Collaborate with peers, iterate on their ideas, and present their solutions
It’s hands-on, challenging, and designed to stretch creativity while giving a real taste of the engineering process.
Bootcamp Facilitator
