Engineering Tech Talk Series

Engineering Tech Talk is an industry-led seminar series delivered by local engineering professionals, showcasing real-world knowledge and experience from professionals working within the region.

The series is designed to support local engineering communities by encouraging knowledge sharing and connection between professionals, students, and industry stakeholders. With hundreds of EIT students studying while working across Botswana’s engineering and industrial sectors, the series reflects EIT’s long-standing commitment to developing and celebrating industry-ready engineering professionals within the region.

This event introduces the series in Botswana, with a focus on the core components that enable industrial automation systems to operate intelligently and efficiently.

Seminar Details

Sensors and actuators are fundamental elements of modern industrial automation. Sensors detect physical parameters such as temperature, pressure, proximity, and light, while actuators respond by performing physical actions based on control signals.

This seminar explores how these components function individually and how they work together within automated systems. Through practical examples, attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how automation improves productivity, precision, and safety across industrial environments.

Real-world scenarios such as conveyor systems and robotic packaging lines will be used to demonstrate the seamless interaction between sensing, decision-making, and action.

About the Presenter:

Alex Galebonwe – Maintenance Technician at Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC)
Alex is an engineering professional with hands-on experience in industrial automation systems and is a graduate of EIT’s 52886WA Advanced Diploma of Industrial Automation Engineering. His work focuses on the practical application of sensors, actuators, and control technologies in modern industrial settings.

Who is EIT?

The Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) provides practical education and training in engineering and technology, with most graduates in fulfilling and well-paid engineering jobs. EIT offers excellence across its professional development courses, and in its Australian internationally accredited diplomas and advanced diplomas, bachelor and master degrees, and a professional Doctor of Engineering. The engineering lecturers and instructors, most with considerable industry experience and a passion for teaching, are drawn from around the world.

The live and interactive online platform of learning (with access to remote and virtual labs) reaches students in over 160 countries. The degrees are also available on campus in Australia, using a blended approach to learning.
