During 2023 the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) has once again hosted a series of seminars in various locations around the world.
From South Africa to the Philippines, these seminars have become a platform for engineering professionals and enthusiasts to come together, learn, and exchange ideas on cutting-edge technologies and engineering trends.
This article will provide an overview of the EIT seminars that took place in the first half of the year and provide an insight into what is yet to come.
Dr. Steve Mackay, Dean of Engineering, detailed ways to apply sustainability and automation to engineering projects – in the areas of electrical, mechanical, civil, and industrial automation engineering – as applied to such diverse areas as mining, infrastructure, construction, defense, energy, water, transport, medical, manufacturing, and consultancy.
Dr. Mackay highlighted how the significant growth in climate change engineering, the drive for sustainability, cost efficiencies, and automation might impact work.
In a lively debate, he called on the attendees to share their perspectives on the future of engineering in South Africa.
Finally – in small groups – attendees were tasked with outlining their team’s approach to a practical engineering project that was given to them.
Key staff traveled from South Africa and parts of Zimbabwe to deliver a presentation in Harare. It included information on the programs EIT offers on-campus and online, and how remotely based students are supported. The seminar included a technical presentation focusing on the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, delivered by Mr. Freeman Mhlanga, EIT Lecturer, and General Manager at a local engineering firm.
This presentation was open to everyone, whether they were seasoned professionals, just starting out in their engineering careers, or looking to change direction. There were networking opportunities while attendees enjoyed afternoon tea.
A digital Certificate of Attendance was provided to those who attended.
EIT’s Lead Course Advisor and Lead Learning Support Officer, traveled from South Africa and Zimbabwe, respectively, to deliver a presentation which included valuable information on the programs EIT offers as well as the unique student support EIT provides for its students.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about studying an engineering program with EIT on-campus in Australia or online.
Dr. Steve Mackay, also streamed live from Australia to provide an insight into Engineering Trends Across the World.
Attendees included EIT alumni, current students and would-be students of engineering. Afterwards they remained to network over refreshments.
Digital Certificates of Attendance were provided.
Professor Akhtar Kalam, Deputy Chair of EIT’s Academic Board, and Mr. Rolf Baum, EIT International Recruitment Manager, traveled from Australia to meet with attendees in person.
Prof. Kalam, a globally recognized engineering academic, delivered an insightful presentation on the the engineering essentials for those working in Australia.
Following his presentation, Rolf provided an overview of EIT, sharing valuable information about what it is like to study with a college dedicated to engineering.
During the event, attendees enjoyed afternoon tea.
EIT is traveling from Australia and from around the Philippines to meet with you in person this month!
