This program has been tailored to meet the needs of engineering and technical personnel and includes industry-relevant information. You will gain the necessary leadership and management skills in areas such as financial plans and budgets, negotiation, developing business and operational plans, people management, project management, and conflict resolution. Upon completion of this program, you will gain the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage people and a business unit effectively.
Whether you are moving from a purely technical role to that of managing a business unit within a large organization, setting up a small business, or working as a freelance consultant, this program will provide you with critical skills and industry-related knowledge in leadership and management.
Through this program, you will learn to focus on managing people and a business, all within an engineering and technical context. You will gain these skills through real-life examples, exercises, and assignments, all designed around, and focused for use in the engineering and technical industries and trade applications.
The program commences with units on leading and managing workplace relationships and team effectiveness. Then, the associated topic of emotional intelligence is covered to ensure you have a firm grasp on the basic principles of effective management. This includes managing different personality types, interpersonal skills, leadership, communication skills, and team management — all aimed at making you a better and effective manager.
You will then cover the management of operational plans where you apply the overall business plan to your workplace. Other components of this diploma include critical areas of managing budgets and financial plans, developing a business plan, and identifying threats and identification of marketing opportunities.
The program is composed of 12 units, which will be delivered over 12 months. Each unit includes weekly live and interactive webinars with an experienced lecturer, set readings, and assessments comprising of either written assignments, quizzes, or short activities.
This program is designed for those working in an engineering or technical field, who have some supervisory or management experience but are looking to gain a formal qualification in leadership and management. It is not recommended for those without at least some relevant background in their careers, as you will need to draw on your existing experience as you work through the program.

You are expected to spend approximately 10-15 hours per week learning the program material and completing assessments. This includes attending weekly webinars that run for about 90 minutes to facilitate class discussion and allow you to ask questions. This program is run online on a part-time basis and has been designed to fit around full-time work. It will take 12 months to complete.
