About the presenter

ECSA

Professor Hugh Jeffery, Professional Engineering Technologist

Professor Hugh Jeffery began his career as an apprentice, fitter and turner before moving into technical education, rising to vice principal at Johannesburg Technical College and later serving as Dean of Faculty at Port Elizabeth Technikon (now NMMU). He worked extensively with industry as a consultant and trainer, while also contributing to technical teacher education.

He held leadership roles nationally, serving on Ministerial Committees under Professors Kader Asmal and Naledi Pandor, where he guided curriculum development for Grades 10–12, vocational programmes for FET Colleges, and CAPS for Technical Schools. He also convened mechanical engineering programmes and chaired accreditation panels for ECSA and SERTEC.
