Biography

Dr. Kumari Gamage is a lecturer in Civil Engineering at the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT), Brisbane, Australia. Before joining EIT in June 2024, she was a professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. She earned a B.Sc. (Hons.) in civil engineering from the University of Moratuwa and B.Eng.Sci. and PhD degrees in structural engineering from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Over the past 24 years, her professional experience started as a construction site Engineer, Structural design Engineer, research scholar towards the academic starting from the demonstrator/teacher to senior lecturer/professor in structural engineering. She has extended her research and practice on the lifetime integrity of structures, including structural strength assessment and retrofitting of structures using advanced composite materials, sustainable construction materials and thermal comfort in indoor environments. Dr. Kumari has published over 150 research articles in journals and conferences.  She received the outstanding research excellence award every year starting from 2011 to 2023 from the University of Moratuwa. Her outstanding research publications were appreciated as the top 100 publications in STEM in Sri Lanka, which received 5 awards (The Presidential Award for research excellence) during the period from 2016 to 2021. She received 3 awards for the best paper for her publications in 2024, 2019 and 2018, in international conferences. She has supervised more than 50 research students, for the successful completion of PhD, MPhil and M.Sc. degrees. Dr. Kumari Gamage is a member of the Engineers Australia, Chartered Professional Engineer and International Professional Engineer (Int.PE), the Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka.

An Integrated AI Framework for Crop Recommendation

25 March, 2026
Despite recent advances in artificial intelligence for agriculture, reliable crop recommendation remains constrained by limited access to soil diagnostics, insufficient integration of environmental context, and the absence of transparent, quantitative evaluation frameworks. This study addresses the research question: How can we integrate multiple indicators to generate accurate, explainable, and context-sensitive...Read More

Durability assessment and reliability modelling of CFRP composites under simulated long-term exposure to acidic, alkaline, and aqueous environments

23 March, 2026
Durability assessment and reliability modelling of CFRP composites under simulated long-term exposure to acidic, alkaline, and aqueous environments A detailed experimental programme was conducted to investigate the durability of unidirectional Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets exposed to water, acidic (pH = 1), and alkaline (pH = 12.6) environments under...Read More
