Course Overview

This advanced diploma of power systems provides the skills and knowledge required to work in the electricity supply industry (ESI) as a High Voltage (HV) Substation Project Manager or a Senior Systems Operator or a Power Systems Technical Officer. Upon completion of this program, you will gain skills and knowledge in the latest and developing technologies in electricity supply and power systems.

Program Details

This qualification covers overseeing the construction of electrical substations and related projects within the electricity supply industry (ESI). It also includes managing personnel, the business aspects of projects, and giving specialist advice to deal with day-to-day issues and problems. The skills and knowledge described within the units in this qualification may require a license or permit to practice in the workplace. Additional and/or other conditions may also apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements, which must be confirmed before commencing the qualification.

This advanced diploma qualification is made up of a series of core and elective units. The requirements for granting the advanced diploma qualification will be met when competency is demonstrated and achieved for:

1. All the Core Units relevant to the advanced diploma qualification, and

2. A combination of available Elective Units, and

3. All of any prerequisite requirements

Core Units

The core units are listed below, and all of them are mandatory to complete as part of the advanced diploma.

· UEECD0007: Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace

· UEECD0046: Solve problems in single path circuits

· UEECD0044: Solve problems in multiple path circuits

· UEECD0051: Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications

· UEEEL0021: Solve problems in magnetic and electromagnetic devices

· UEEEL0020: Solve problems in low voltage a.c. circuits

The five specialisation streams will allow students to specialize and develop careers in one of the following challenging and exciting fields:

  1. Design – distribution substations, public lighting systems and underground distribution systems
  2. Systems Operations Distribution – validate low voltage switching programs, sub-transmission switching programs
  3. Systems Operations Transmission – transmission network access, transmission switching programs
  4. Protection (Testing) – maintain network protection and control systems, maintain metering schemes and maintain and calibrate protection relays and meters
  5. Protection and Metering (Testing) – maintain communication equipment, maintain network protection and control systems and control scheme isolation

Hear from our students

The learning support officers were amazing help thoughout the course. Also I found Moodle very easy to use.
Could attend lectures and submit assignment any where in the world as I was able to do when on holidays in Japan.
