Biography
Loreto Espiritu has over 35 years of mechanical engineering experience in various copper, silver and gold mines in the Philippines and nickel, iron ore and gold mines in Australia. His vast wealth of experience includes design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of mechanical engineering and reliability improvement projects in both underground and surface mining operations.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Loreto wasted no time and started working at the Mill Mechanical Department as a Junior Mechanical Engineer. His passion and dedication to installing and commissioning the biggest ball mill in the Philippines resulted in the mines’ increased tonnage. His achievement led to his promotion as the youngest Mill Mechanical Superintendent. His depth of project experience also included the installation, commissioning, operation and commissioning of underground cable belt conveyors and conventional conveyors which resulted in high tonnage throughput.
With the success of the cable belt conveyor operation, Loreto presented a technical paper entitled “Cable Belt Conveyor, Harsh Condition High Tonnage “during the Australian International Mining Exposition.
Loreto also presented a thesis entitled “ Bulawan Underground Dewatering ” which earned him the highest rank as a Professional Mechanical Engineer in the Philippines. This accomplishment led to his promotion to Mine Mechanical Department Manager.
In 2002, he was hired by the World’s Biggest Miners in Australia as a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer for its new Nickel Operation.
Loreto has also worked with various iron ore and gold mines as a Mechanical Project Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Conveyor Specialist and Asset Management Specialist.
