SUMMARY:Power Quality Challenges in Power Systems with High Renewable Penetration
DESCRIPTION:The live presentation of this event has already taken place. \nPlease view the PDF slides here or watch the video recording below:\n \nWebinar details\nConventional power production resources\, such as coal and petroleum\, emit carbon\, which is hazardous to the environment. To address this issue\, renewable energy resources are increasingly used for power generation. Among these\, solar power is one of the most abundant and accessible resources. Its lack of mechanical involvement makes it easy to integrate at various scales\, from residential homes to large industrial firms. \nIn 2020\, solar PV production reportedly increased by 23% compared to 2019\, highlighting the growing global popularity of solar power. However\, issues related to power quality and harmonics in integrated systems remain critical when transferring power to the grid. To improve PV system performance\, various inverter configurations have been proposed in the literature. Among these\, multilevel converters have proven to be the most effective option for minimizing harmonics and reducing noise interference\, thereby addressing key power quality challenges. \n\nThe webinar will be recorded and will be sent out to registered attendees afterwards.\nA certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees who request one near the end of the live webinar session.\nPlease note: the time stated on this event is in UTC. You will need to convert this to your own time zone.\n\nKey takeaways from this webinar\n\nRenewable Energy Penetration in Power Systems\nPotential Power Quality Challenges\nResearch based Case Study\n\nRelated courses\nThis webinar/topic relates to our school of Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy and is particularly found in the following courses: \n\nProfessional Certificate of Competency in Fundamentals of Green Hydrogen Technology\nUndergraduate Certificate in Electrical Engineering\n52888WA Advanced Diploma of Applied Electrical Engineering (Power Industry)\nOnline – Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering)\n52859WA Graduate Certificate in Renewable Energy Technologies\nOnline – Master of Engineering (Electrical Systems)\n\nTo learn more about tuition fees\, please click here. \nAbout the presenter\n \nDr. Munira Batool\, EIT Lecturer \nDr. Munira Batool received the Ph.D. degree from Curtin University\, Australia\, in May 2019. She has over 15 years of extensive experience of teaching and research in the university sector. She is currently an Assistant Professor with the University of Engineering and Technology Taxila. She is also a Postgraduate Research Supervisor with the Electrical Engineering Department\, EIT Australia. \nShe has commendable teaching experiences in power system generation\, power system transmission\, power system distribution and utilization\, power system protection\, and electric power system analysis. Her research interests include distributed energy generation-based power systems\, renewable energy sources integration and control\, microgrids\, and smart grids. Initially\, this was applied to improve the performance of distributed energy generation systems using optimization methods. More recently\, her research efforts have involved the optimal sizing and siting of renewable energy sources (like PV and wind) in distribution networks using novel power electronic converters and controllers. She is a subject matter expertise on modelling and simulating\nrenewable energy-based power system networks using software commonly used in the industry. The results of her research have been published in high ranked journals and conference papers.
