SUMMARY:Engineering Tech Talk Botswana: Maintenance of HVAC Systems
DESCRIPTION:Engineering Tech Talk Series\nEngineering Tech Talk is an industry-led seminar series delivered by local engineering professionals\, showcasing real-world knowledge and experience from professionals working within the region. \nThe series is designed to support local engineering communities by encouraging knowledge sharing and connection between professionals\, students\, and industry stakeholders. With hundreds of EIT students studying while working across the region’s engineering and industrial sectors\, the series reflects EIT’s long-standing commitment to developing and celebrating industry-ready engineering professionals. \nFollowing Bernard Ipotseng’s previous session\, Fundamentals of Refrigeration Systems\, this Engineering Tech Talk builds on those foundations by exploring the maintenance practices that keep refrigeration and HVAC systems operating safely\, efficiently\, and reliably in industrial environments. \n  \nEvent Details:\n\nDate: Friday\, 31 July 2026\nTime: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM\nLocation: Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub\, Science and Technology Park\, Botswana\, Gaborone\nCost: Free\n\nAttend this EIT Botswana event to receive access to an exclusive 15% tuition fee bursary for eligible EIT courses commencing on or before 31 August 2026. Terms and conditions apply. \n  \nSeminar Details\nEffective HVAC maintenance requires more than routine servicing; it demands a clear understanding of system components\, refrigerant behaviour\, electrical wiring\, and structured fault diagnosis. This session provides a practical exploration of the essential elements that ensure reliable and efficient refrigeration and air-conditioning performance. \nThe seminar will unpack key HVAC components and processes\, with a focused discussion on refrigerant management\, electrical wiring fundamentals\, and systematic troubleshooting techniques. Drawing from industry-based experience\, the session will demonstrate how a methodical approach to fault finding reduces downtime\, improves safety compliance\, and enhances overall system efficiency. \nAttendees will gain practical insights into diagnosing common and complex system faults\, interpreting wiring diagrams\, handling refrigerants responsibly\, and applying structured troubleshooting steps in industrial environments. \nThis session is ideal for technicians\, artisans\, and maintenance professionals seeking to strengthen their technical foundation and improve fault resolution efficiency in refrigeration and HVAC systems. \n  \nAbout the Presenter:\n \nBernard Ipotseng – Heating\, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Artisan\n \nWith over 16 years of expertise in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems within industrial environments. Bernards background spans maintenance\, fault diagnostics\, and performance optimisation across complex plant operations. \nBernard has worked with BMC in refrigeration and DTCB in HVAC\, and is currently based at Morupule B Power Plant\, where he contributes to system reliability and sustainable maintenance practices. He specialises in identifying and resolving complex system faults\, preventative maintenance planning\, and ensuring strict compliance with safety and operational standards. \nHe holds an 52932WA Advanced Diploma in Plant Engineering and was awarded the EIT Academic Excellence Award (VET 2025). SUMMARY:EngineerConnect Melbourne: Powering the Renewable Future
DESCRIPTION:Can we deliver Melbourne’s future?\nWith continued population growth across Victoria\, major investment in transport and infrastructure\, and rising energy\, fuel\, and construction costs\, the real challenge is delivering Melbourne’s future\, not just planning it. \nBehind every major project lies a complex web of engineering decisions\, risk trade-offs\, and real-world constraints. From transport networks and energy systems to large-scale urban developments\, engineers are being asked to do more\, faster\, more sustainably\, and under increasing scrutiny. \nAs Victoria accelerates its transition to renewable energy\, additional complexity is introduced across grid infrastructure\, system integration\, and long-term project planning. This panel brings together engineering and industry experts to explore the challenges of growth\, energy\, and infrastructure\, and to discuss what it really takes to deliver Melbourne’s sustainable future. \nEvent Details:\n\nDate: Tuesday\, 15 September 2026\nTime: 4:00 PM – 6:00PM\nLocation: EIT Melbourne Campus\, Level 5\, 301 Flinders Lane\, Melbourne VIC 3000\nAttendance: Free in person event\, however limited spots available. Please RSVP by 8th September.\n\nWhy Attend: \n\nUnderstand the challenges of delivering infrastructure and renewable energy projects in Victoria\nLearn how energy transition is influencing engineering and delivery decisions\nGain insights into balancing sustainability\, risk\, and project timelines\nHear from industry leaders on real-world renewable energy and infrastructure projects\n\nWhat to Expect:\n\nPanel Discussion: Explore how engineers are responding to growth\, energy transition\, and increasing delivery pressures\, and what this means for infrastructure projects across Melbourne and Victoria.\nLive Q&A: Ask your questions directly to industry experts on project delivery\, risk management\, stakeholder challenges\, and future infrastructure priorities.\nNetworking Opportunities: Connect with peers\, senior engineers\, and industry professionals over canapés and drinks.\nProfessional Recognition: Receive a digital Certificate of Attendance\, potentially eligible for Engineers Australia CPD hours.\n\nAttendance at this technical event may be eligible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours with Engineers Australia\, in accordance with their CPD guidelines. \nA digital Certificate of Attendance will be provided after the event. \nPanelists:\n \nNishad Mendis\, Business Unit Manager – Renewables at Bureau Veritas  \nNishad Mendis is an experienced professional in the energy sector with over 18 years of experience.
