DESCRIPTION:Please note: this Bootcamp is booked out\, you can still join the waitlist.\n  \nHydraulic Systems – Powering Motion with Fluids\nThis hands-on workshop introduces students to hydraulic actuation systems\, where liquids are used to transmit force and generate motion in machines. High school students will explore how hydraulic systems create work and energy\, then apply their learning by building a simple water-powered actuator. \nEvent Details\n\nDate: Thursday\, 16 April 2026\nTime: 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM\nLocation: EIT Perth Campus\, 6 Thelma Street\, West Perth\, WA\, 6005\nWho Can Join: Year 9-10 high school students\nInclusions: All learning materials\, welcome pack\, certificate of participation\, prizes\nMorning Tea: Provided by EIT (please inform us of any allergies)\nTickets: $69AUD inclusive of GST per student\n\nThis half-day bootcamp runs from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at EIT Perth Campus. It is designed for Year 9-10 high school students with no prior knowledge of hydraulics required. Spots are limited to ensure a hands-on\, engaging experience. \nWhat to Expect\nStudents will be introduced to the fundamentals of hydraulic power and how liquids transmit pressure to perform work. They will then take part in a practical engineering challenge\, building a simple hydraulic actuator using syringes\, tubing\, and basic materials. \nBy applying pressure to move water between syringes\, students will observe how hydraulic systems convert fluid power into mechanical motion\, just like real-world machines such as excavators and lifting systems. \nWhy Join\nThis bootcamp is a practical introduction to how engineers use fluid power in real-world applications. \nParticipants will: \n\nLearn how force and pressure are transmitted in hydraulic systems\nExplore how hydraulic systems are used in everyday machinery\nApply engineering design thinking to build a working model\nTest and refine their designs to improve performance\n\nIt’s hands-on\, interactive\, and designed to bring engineering concepts to life. \nBootcamp Facilitator\n \nDr. Aravin Arumugam\, Senior Lecturer – Mechanical Engineering \nInclusions & Notes\nAll materials required for the activity are provided\, and students will receive a certificate of participation. \nFull supervision is provided at all times\, and all facilitators hold Working With Children checks.
