SUMMARY:Concrete Admixtures: Life Cycle Assessment and Avoided Emissions
DESCRIPTION:The live presentation of this event has already taken place. \nPlease view the PDF slides here or watch the video recording below: \nWebinar details\nIn this webinar\, Dr. Nam Le will provide an overview of concrete admixtures with respect to their life cycle assessment (LCA) and the potential for avoided emissions. Although admixtures typically account for a small portion of concrete by weight\, they play a critical role in enhancing both technical performance and sustainability. \nWith rising interest in the environmental impact of construction materials\, more Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for admixtures are being published each year. Understanding their life cycle helps reduce emissions and promote transparency. Additionally\, admixtures can act as enablers for significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions beyond their own life cycle—a concept known as avoided emissions. \n\nThe webinar will be recorded and will be sent out to registered attendees afterwards.\nA certificate of attendance will be provided to attendees who request one near the end of the live webinar session.\nPlease note: the time stated on this event is in UTC. You will need to convert this to your own time zone.\n\nKey takeaways from this webinar\n\nUnderstand why accurate life cycle assessment of concrete admixtures depends on access to comprehensive product data.\nLearn how Environmental Product Declarations reveal the impact of formulation optimization in significantly lowering emissions.\nDiscover how a case study revealed that concrete admixtures can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions through avoided emissions.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRelated courses\nThis webinar/topic relates to our school of Civil Engineering  and is particularly found in the following courses: \n\nProfessional Certificate of Competency in Repair of Concrete\nProfessional Certificate of Competency in Structural Design for Non-Structural Engineers\n52873WA Advanced Diploma of Civil and Structural Engineering\n52896WA Advanced Diploma of Civil and Structural Engineering (Materials Testing)\nOnline – Bachelor of Science (Civil & Structural Engineering)\nOnline – Master of Engineering (Civil: Structural)\n\nAbout the presenter\n \nDr Nam. Le\, EIT Lecturer and Sika Australia R&D Sustainability Manager \nDr Nam Le is an experienced professional in construction materials\, with a background spanning both academia and industry.\nHe obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from National University of Singapore\, his Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Construction Materials from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. \nDr. Nam Le is passionate about sustainable material solutions and initiatives for reducing carbon emissions. He has a proven leadership record in management roles across various functions\, including Technical\, Technical Service\, Product Management\, and R&D Sustainability. He was a lecturer for Hutech University in Vietnam during three years. He periodically delivers lectures and supervises research theses at EIT.
