Richard E. Morley
Richard E. Morley, best known as the father of the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), is a leading visionary in the field of advanced technological developments. Mr. Morley (Dick) is a member on the Board of Directors of various companies across the United States and has worked in high tech industries since the beginning of solid- state electronics.
He is currently Chairman of the Board of NCMS (National Center for Manufacturing Sciences) and has a proven track record in the founding of successful high-tech companies for where he provides initial product concept and a continuing technological presence.
He is a nationally recognized expert in the field of computer design, artificial intelligence, automation and is an authority on the factory of the future. Mr. Morley is an engineer, consultant and inventor. His inventions include the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), which now stands in the Smithsonian Institute. He holds more than twenty United States and foreign patents. Mr. Morley is well known as a lecturer, has written extensively for such publications as Manufacturing Systems magazine and Manufacturing Automation magazine. He has published many works of his own. His latest book, 'Out of the Barn', was published in October 2002 and another book, 'The Technology Machine', was published in September 1999. Mr Morley founded the angel investment group; the Breakfast Club. He is currently an active member with this group of investors having participated in more than 100 startup companies in the New Hampshire area.
He was the former Director of Advanced Technologies for Gould, Inc. He is a Gould Fellow of Science and Engineering, a Fellow of SME, Bios LP and ICS. In addition, he was awarded the 1990 Entrepreneur of the Year by Inc. magazine, Merrill Lynch and Ernst and Young.
He is a 1991 recipient of The Franklin Institute's Howard N. Potts Medal, and holds the Prometheus Medal placing him into the Automation Hall of Fame. International IEN ranked him 3rd in the "Top 100 Most Significant Industrial Products of the 20th Century" for his work with the PLC.
In October 1999, ISA (Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society) honored him with the "Life Achievement Award" and Fortune magazine awarded him their "Heroes of Manufacturing Award" in March 2000.

G.Vijayaraghavan is an electrical engineer with over 35 years experience in the Steel Industry and Engineering Consultancy. He is the author of several of IDC's technical books including Practical Earthing, Bonding, Shielding and Surge Protection which has been published and sold internationally by Elsevier(UK).
He regularly designs training workshops for IDC and lectures on their behalf to engineers and technicians world-wide. He is a very knowledgeable instructor and his courses are extremely interesting with many ideas, anecdotes and tips drawn from his rich experience.

Brian has 20 plus years of engineering experience. He thinks in systems and the connections between them as a result of his time as a Naval Weapons Electrical Engineering Officer. As a design, commissioning and project engineer with Rio Tinto Alcan he oversaw the first application of devicenet in an aluminium smelting environment and assisted with piloting fully automated anode changing.
More recently he has been involved with collecting data from process using the OSISoft historian and using their toolset for analysis. His experience with networking goes back to becoming the accidental sysadmin for a Novell Netware system in the early 1990’s and has been a part of his roles ever since. Currently he works for Griffith University as a Technical Lead/Project Manager where he is assisting in collecting and analysing data in support of their sustainability initiatives.

Hashemi has over 20 years international experience in electrical power industry with a focus on modelling, analysis, planning and operation of power systems including distribution, sub-transmission and transmission networks. He has been involved in modelling and analysis of major projects including HVDC interconnectors and wind farms.
Currently Hashemi is working as a Principal Engineer for a power utility in Australia as well as teaching as a part time lecturer for EIT.

Tom has ten years of experience with HVAC and fenestration (windows). His ongoing research concerns the thermal processes in vacuum glazing, which is used in highly insulating windows. He was a representative from the University of Sydney vacuum glazing group on the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and Cooling Program, Task 18. He has also spent six years working on and advising solar-electric vehicle projects. For the past three years, Tom has taught HVAC at the University of Toronto to graduate and continuing education students. Tom has received nine university teaching awards. He ensures that concepts are thoroughly explained not only with theory but also with practical common sense and real-life examples so students truly understand them.
Tom also writes technology features about solar cars and aerospace for major newspapers in Australia, Asia and Canada (links at www.energy-innovations.ca/Articles.htm ). Terry has a BSc Electrical Engineering as well as BComm and MBL degrees. Terry has over 30 years of experience in electrical power and distribution systems in various industries including the mining and steel sectors. Terry is a director of Motswedi TLC Software which he co-founded in 1988. The company develops electrical engineering instrumentation and measurement solutions. Through leadership in his company R&D team, he has collaborated in the design and development of over 300 products including metering and power quality instruments.
Terry has served on the South African National Standards committee for power quality instruments (SANS 1816). As a senior member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers and a member of the IEEE, Terry has authored numerous papers on power distribution and power quality.
Haresh is passionate about Mechanical Engineering, and teaching and writing. In a career spanning over 17 years he has gained extensive industrial experience in the area of utilities, which provides him command in this field to teach and provide consultancy. Haresh has worked in the installation, erection, and commissioning of utility plants, such as air compression plants, water chilling plants, central air conditioning systems, chlorine liquefaction plants, diesel generators, and payloader etc. He has been responsible for the maintenance and operations of the above plants, along with boiler plants, and various types of pumps and blowers.
As a lecturer at the SSVPS College of Engineering, Haresh has taught his favorite subjects including Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Thermodynamics, Automobile Engineering, Power Plant Engineering and Industrial Instrumentation. He has written course materials on HVAC and other subjects for multiple companies including IDC. One of his major involvements has been with www.brighthub.com, where he and his team have published more than 2500 articles covering various areas of engineering. He has personally written more than 400 articles for the website.
Over the years, Haresh has specialized in the fields of utilities of which HVAC is the major part. He has worked in the industry as HVAC consultant and has also written a number articles and course materials in this field.
Larry’s exposure to data communications began 15 years ago whilst he was taken under the wings of an experienced naval radio communications engineer; Rob DeVaack – whom ran the Perth branch of RF Industries Australia. Whilst absorbing what he could about the inner workings of radio antennas and modems... something would pique his interest; that at the time was barely in the colloquial vernacular. That something was the World Wide Web.
The web would have to wait however as Larry still needed to feed himself and his family! Approximately 5 years later Larry would cross paths with Boston Technology – the sister company to IDC Technologies. They needed some new blood to promote their line of industrial data communications hardware, industrial PCs, and Ethernet products. Over the next 7 years Larry would become IDC’s IT manager, consultant for course practicals and kits, and continued to keep things ticking over with Boston Technology. The websites for both companies would end up being maintained by Larry – first out of an interest to tinker, but eventually out of necessity. Thus Larry took himself to university and decided that a career in web design was ultimately his long term passion.
Along his academic journey Larry also trained himself to use Linux operating systems. This led him to developing a 2-day course on the subject and then presented it throughout Australia to excellent reviews. Early in 2007 Larry met with a very ambitious entrepreneur – Brian Gillett. Ian has been involved in digital communications since 1994, installing the first multi-vendor Foundation Fieldbus project in 1996. Since then Ian has served as both; a leading Project Engineer/Designer and an external/cold eyes review consultant for a number of companies involved in pulp and paper, mining, food processing, water and wastewater, oil sands processing, petrochemical and refining industries. Ian is co-author, with Augusto Pereira, of ISA's popular "Foundation Fieldbus Pocket Guide". Also under Ian's guidance as editor, is the Foundation Fieldbus End User Advisory Council's "Engineering Design Guide, Foundation Fieldbus document AG-181". This is the definitive guide for the complete life cycle for Fieldbus projects. The "Guide" has been translated into German, Japanese, Chinese and Russian, demonstrating how widely it is used as the basis for many corporate and project specifications. Ian is also an active volunteer with ISA, serving as Vice-President of the Standards and Practices 2005/6 and was the person responsible for the formation of the ISA-100 Industrial Wireless committee on which he continues to participate. Geoff began his career at Kent Instruments, as a service engineer working in both the UK and East Africa. Danie obtained the B. Eng. Electrical and Electronic degree from the former Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (PU for CHE) in 1987. After lecturing at the PU for CHE’s School for Electrical and Electronic Engineering for three years he began his own electronic consultancy business, Dantron, in 1992. In 1997 he won the University’s VERKA competition for best lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering. During that time he conducted research in TCP/IP based digital communications for which he obtained a Masters degree Cum Laude in 1999. He also pioneered a programmable logic laboratory, sponsored by Xilinx from the USA.
Danie’s design experience includes many facets of embedded systems and -programming for applications such as protocol converters between TCP/IP and industrial protocols, MODBUS/TCP/IP interfaces for soft-PLC’s, CAN-bus, I2C, smart telephone systems, ISDN and computer data communications.
Danie was awarded for the most innovative contribution towards the Northwest University’s management systems in 2011 and currently holds the position as Head of Electronic Services at the university, where he gained extensive experience in specifying, installing and maintaining corporate-wide electronic systems.

Braam started his career in electrical engineering by serving an apprenticeship on the Zambian copper mines. After qualifying, he moved to South Africa where he obtained Government Certificates of Competency, in both electrical and mechanical engineering, and worked for a number of years as an Engineer on various gold, diamond, platinum, coal and titanium mines.
He was subsequently recruited by the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR), where he attained the rank of Principal Inspector. His work entailed investigating serious mine accidents involving mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. He was also often called to present evidence in criminal and civil courts.
Braam studied for a degree in Electrical Engineering with a DMR bursary. Braam is the Principal Member of the consulting firm, Burchardt Technical Services cc, which he established in 1998. He is also the owner of an electrical construction company, RB Electrical.
In the past two decades Braam has worked on major mining projects for Rio Tinto, both in South Africa and abroad. Braam has a passion for educating young engineers and freelances as an instructor for mining companies, EIT and others. He also has an interest in writing and (late in his career) obtained a diploma in journalism.

After completing his studies in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (MEng) and applied mathematics (BSc Hons) in 1997, Robert worked in industry as a power electronics design engineer. The design of electrical machines was his next pursuit, and he completed a PhD at TU Delft in the Netherlands on this subject. His thesis project was not only an academic study, but very practical: a high-speed permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) was built from his design and mounted as part of a flywheel in a passenger bus in Eindhoven, where it was in active service for several years.
Upon his return to South Africa, Robert worked in teaching and research at two universities: University of Johannesburg (UJ) and North-West University (NWU). While at NWU, he designed three more high-speed PMSMs for industrial and research applications. He was also involved with solar, wind and hydrogen energy systems. Next, Robert ventured into the gold mining industry by working for Gold Fields Mining Innovations as electrical engineer, where he completed novel electromechanical and power electronics designs for mining robots. His experience in mining robotics then lead him to the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), where he currently works in field robotics software development.
His current activities include power electronics, drives and power systems for robots, control systems, software engineering, mathematical modeling, computer vision, localization, mapping, sensors and systems engineering.

One word describes Kobus. Passionate! He loves his work in chemical engineering. He has worked in a number of roles at Sasol in the chemical engineering area ranging from the ammonia business, to ultra high purity hydrogen and solvents. Latterly he's been responsible for optimisation support in the Monomers and Polymers business. He spent a year doing detail engineering in Texas which he found a tremendously positive influence on his career.

Cornie is an engineer who combines a deep understanding of the theoretical aspects of mechanical engineering with a passion for the practical applications of the technology. He is currently Associate Professor at a world renowned university and is responsible for numerous consulting and research projects that are done in close collaboration with industry, with a special focus on mechanical design and mechatronic systems throughout the world. He has designed and commissioned numerous mechanical products and automation systems for industry. Cornie is also an experienced lecturer on a wide range of topics within mechanical engineering, including mechanical design, maintenance, mechanical vibrations, structural mechanics and mechatronics.

Raymond De Ravet

Raymond has over 25 years experience in the process engineering industry, starting as a process engineer focusing on troubleshooting refinery installations and commissioning, start-up and acceptance of LPG units. Since then, he has been involved in turnaround optimisations and engineering of refinery processes, power plant operation, utility production and distribution.
For the majority of his career he worked for Total Refinery, responsible for a utility centre of a 1800m³/hr, 23% bottoms, refinery with production and distribution of steam (100 to 0.4 bar) electricity (150kV and downwards) and water, air, refinery gas and nitrogen. More recently he was involved in the engineering, building and commissioning of a cogeneration plant (150MW) together with an aromatic production complex. Raymond now works as a freelance lecturer and consultant, passing on his vast knowledge to others.

Frans has over 25 years of experience in the plant maintenance environment focusing on steel and chemical industries. He commenced his career at the lowest position in the organization and worked through the ranks to become maintenance manager, and then on to reliability engineer. Ivan Fair has extensive industrial and academic experience in telecommunications and data networking. He has been a research & design engineer for both Bell Northern Research (now part of Nortel Networks) and MPR TelTech Ltd. furthering their development of advanced fiber optic systems. It was during this industrial experience that he became interested in the area of coding for data communication networks, and returned to the academic environment to focus on this topic. After receiving his doctorate, he joined Dalhousie University in Halifax before moving to the University of Alberta where he is now a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. In addition to teaching communications and data networking courses, he supervises research projects and graduate students in these areas which has resulted in over 90 publications.
Ivan has held various administrative positions at university, and continues to be active in volunteer professional activities. He recently assisted Engineers Canada with their development of an Electrical Engineering syllabus, and is currently a member of the Board of Examiners for the Association of Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta.
Justin has over 30 plus years electrical engineering experience and currently works as an Electrical Engineering consultant for his own company.
Justin has spent time working for Power & Water, Minara Resources, Cockburn Cement and Nilsen as their High Energy Engineering Manager specialising in catastrophic HV design issues.
During this time Justin has worked in, designed and commissioned a number of gas turbo and gas reciprocating power stations, heat return steam generation (HRSG) systems, D shell boilers and Nuremberg Steam turbines, which come under the “B” type gas appliance laws for Australia.

Richard Wyman has worked for over 20 years as a control systems engineer with the petroleum and utility industries. As the project manager and technical lead, he recently completed the installation of a large distributed SCADA system. Behrouz has completed degree courses in Telecommunications and Electrical Engineering overseas. He also completed his studies in Electrical Utility Engineering at Curtin University in 2004. Behrouz started his career in the oil and gas industry where his role got him involved in the maintenance and repair of electronic and navigational marine equipment (VHF and SSB radios, Sat Nav, engine control panels etc). He then moved to the power industry and was involved in the design, installation, and commissioning of substations mainly for consultancies and utilities. He has also established a good reputation in teaching power system protection over his long term services lecturing at Curtin University, and also over the period he worked as a Protection Engineer in New Zealand.
Over the past years, Behrouz has been involved in many major projects across Australia (Port Hedland, Barrow Island, Tamar Valley, Karratha, and Newman for example). His most recent experience is related to cost estimation and risk assessment of major substation projects with a special focus on the secondary systems (Protection, COMMS, SCADA). He has also worked as an Engineering Manager and Senior Project Engineer on major copper mine projects overseas. Behrouz has also gained good knowledge in substation design, HV cables sizing and installation, transmission system design, earthing system design and applications, and power system protection design and applications.

His engineering experiences have taken him from the humble port of Adelaide to all areas of Australia and around the world including Africa, PNG, India and Canada. Tristan started off in commissioning and operations of water and wastewater treatment facilities, and then moved to designing, construction and commissioning.
Over the years the technology that Tristan has been involved with has been as varied as his engineering experiences, including pipework design for water treatment, air pollution treatment systems, and wastewater treatment systems in remote challenging environments. Two years ago Tristan decided to expand his qualifications and started a Masters of Advanced Process Design, providing an advanced ability to adapt other engineering technologies to water and wastewater treatment systems. By bringing together his technical knowledge, understanding of theoretical processes and practical based engineering background, you will leave this course with practical ideas and applications that can be implemented into existing systems.
Dr. Peter Fuhr
Dr. Peter Fuhr has been involved in industrial wireless, sensors, and secure systems for 30 plus years as a NASA Space Optical Physicist, University Professor, and Serial Entrepreneur. Dr. Fuhr, who has dual roles as CEO of Wi-Fi Sensors and Senior Member of Research & Development at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, serves as the Co-Chair of The Secure Infrastructure Controls Society, is the Director of the Association for Advanced Agricultural Technology, and is the co-founder and past Chairman of the Wireless Industrial Networking Alliance.
Peter is involved in wireless, sensors, and control systems standards organizations chairing numerous work groups and committees. He has embedded sensors into various structures worldwide ranging from buildings, dams, airplanes, hot air balloon, spacecraft, nuclear power plant containment vessels, even humans. Peter has published/presented over 700 technical articles pertaining to wireless, sensors, security and systems.
His pioneering work in networked sensor systems for structures earned him the Presidential Award for Excellence in Research. Segments of his research activities are featured in the SPIE Milestone Series on Fiber Optics.

Tom started his career as an engine fitter in the RAF. After leaving the RAF Tom worked in oil and gas North Sea projects. During this period he gained valuable experience and knowledge of diesel power generating systems operating in harsh environments. Tom continued his career in South Africa with a short period in Saudi Arabia.
Tom's down-to-earth and practical, yet entertaining approach to the subject of diesel generators makes him a sought after speaker and instructor in this area. His enthusiastic approach to training coupled with his helpful nature is guaranteed to maximise the learning outcome for his delegates.

Deepak started his career within the Zinc mining & smelting industry as Project Engineer in Substation & Distribution Greenfield project. He then worked in a Marine and Logistics firm in the Bahamas as Maintenance and Commissioning Engineer. Following this he worked with Japanese and German automobile firms as Maintenance Engineer for Distribution and Utility related systems. He currently works as an Engineer in a regional NSW electricity Distribution utility.
Deepak has hands on experience in Distribution, Utility and Substation related systems. He has a particular interest in the consistent interpretation and implementation of Greenfield and Brownfield Standards with an emphasis on safety, reliability, economy and whole of life cost analysis.
