Staff and Professional Development
All staff is encouraged to participate in professional development activities that will enhance their capabilities, update skills and provide the staff with increased opportunities for promotion or appointment to more senior positions within the Institute.
All staff taking up an appointment (whether permanent or sessional) shall:
- Be given a formal introduction to the Institute, covering all relevant policies and procedures.
- Be provided with copies of, or access to, all policy documents.
- Be provided with any required training on the use of teaching and delivery technologies currently in use.
- Be provided with a mentor who will provide ongoing advice on teaching methods, standards and performance.
Where appropriate, staff may be required to undertake training in the use of new technologies to be used in the development of curriculum resources, teaching methods, delivery of instruction etc.
As a part of a continuing professional development policy, academic staff is:
- Encouraged to attend each other’s lectures/webcasts.
- Required to chair and present papers at conferences organised by IDC Technologies.
- Encouraged to attend conferences and courses run by other organisations in relevant technical fields.
- Expected to be involved in the development and writing of new course proposals and content, as well as reviewing and critiquing the work of other lecturing staff.
