Senator Dio Wang visits EIT

The EIT West Perth campus is busy, but being an online college with our students spread around the globe, it is 'e-busy'. A physical visit from a senator was welcome.

On Friday 24th of July 2015 some distinguished guests popped in for a visit: WA PUP Senator, Dio Wang, his Chief of Staff, Dr Chamonix Terblanche, and his Research Analyst, Dr David Forbes. In fact it was a veritable tea party; the engaging CEO of the Council Of Private Higher Education (COPHE), Adrian McComb, was over from Sydney and with us too.

It is indeed positive to have a gathering of like-minded people. The overarching passion for all who were there is education, with student welfare and betterment paramount. Conversation, even between these virtual strangers, was engaging and productive.

Dean of EIT, Dr Steve Mackay, and senior staff welcomed the guests. A short presentation on the unique live, online learning platform employed by EIT was followed by introductions to the student elearning cooordinators and a tour of the remote laboratories.

Despite the synergy of the event I do believe the idea of the uneven playing field that is Australian education today, was exercising the minds of all.
