Mission of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) Governance Board

 

  1. To assist in the management, development and maintenance of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) as a leading and internationally recognised provider of specialist Engineering education and training.
  2. To offer specialist and industry relevant Engineering education, training and continuing professional development using state of the art, on-line delivery methods and technologies to a world market.
  3. To achieve a financially viable and profitable operation.


Goals of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) Governance Board

 

  1. To promote the delivery of innovative education and training in specialist engineering areas to Engineers and Technologists.
  2. To promote and support the development of on-line delivery methods to allow students, from any location, to effectively complete the courses provided and to further develop life-long learning skills.
  3. To ensure that the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) operates profitably within the financial resources provided by IDC Technologies, and from income generated from student fees and other income generating activities.
  4. To ensure that all courses and study modules offered are of a high standard (utilising, as a base, Australian benchmarking standards for the same level of study, for equivalent courses of study).
  5. To develop and maintain all necessary policies to ensure the effective and fair operation of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) for both its owners and the enrolled students.
  6. To select and appoint appropriately qualified and experienced administration and academic staff to support the operation of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT).
  7. To provide the facilities and resources to support the necessary operations of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT).
  8. To work with the Academic Board which is responsible for the academic administration of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT).
  9. To prepare the Strategic Plan for the Institute and to review it every three years.
  10. To review, annually, information gained from surveys of students and staff and recommendations from the CEO and the Dean. Based on these reviews to make any necessary changes to administrative or academic arrangements.


Governance Board Member Roles


CEO: Provides day-to-day management and decision making.
IDC Representatives: Provides input from IDC into decision making, possibly providing specialist advice on budgeting, promotion and other corporate issues.
Dean of Engineering: Provides formal link to Academic Board and hence guidance on academic matters (teaching, curriculum, standards, assessments, etc).
Industrial Members: Provide an industry perspective to assist in decision making. These members reflect on current and future industry needs and provide direction advice for training and professional development.
Invited Members: To broaden the industry base or cover specialised areas, members are invited to sit on the board.


Operation of Governance Board


The Board meets at least three times each calendar year, and at other times as appropriate or as requested by the CEO.


Decisions of the Board are recorded in the minutes of their meetings, and the minutes of each meeting are confirmed at a subsequent meeting.


A quorum for a meeting of the Board shall be a minimum of four members including the CEO.
