Education Pathways

The key objective of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) is to provide an outstanding practical engineering and technology education; from Diplomas through to Masters Degrees. The finest engineering lecturers and instructors, with extensive real engineering experience in industry, are drawn from around the world. The learning is gained through synchronous, online (eLearning) technologies.

EIT offers awards in a growing array of engineering fields. The programs are taught using the unique approach of LIVE interactive sessions over the Internet, combined with practical exercises completed using remote laboratories and simulation software. The range of programs include:

  • Professional Certificate of Competency - 3 months (part time, intensive)
  • Diploma - 12 months (part time, intensive)
  • Advanced Diploma - 18 to 24 months (part time, intensive)
  • Bachelor of Science in four (4) streams: Industrial Automation Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Civil and Structural Engineering - 3 years (full time)
  • Graduate Certificate - 6 months (part time, intensive)
  • Graduate Diploma - 12 months (part time, intensive)
  • Master of Engineering in three (3) specialties: Industrial Automation; Electrical Systems; Safety, Risk and Reliability - 24 months (part time intensive)

Choose a path that is right for you

EIT now has several education pathways available to you, allowing you more flexibility and choice.

  • Pathway WITH Credit

Completing an EIT Advanced diploma provides a convenient exit point which ensures that you still receive a qualification should you need withdraw from your studies early. If you successfully complete an EIT Advanced Diploma and choose to continue your studies, you will be eligible to receive credit for a significant proportion of an EIT bachelor degree, fast-tracking your studies.

Alternatively, if you have completed a prior qualification from another institution, you may still be eligible to apply for credit. If successful, you may choose to progress through a Bachelor degree, with part-time or full-time, completing the required units as they are scheduled.

  • Pathway WITHOUT Credit

If you are not eligible to apply for credit, you can enter directly into our Bachelor program, and select either a full-time or part-time intensive study load depending on your personal circumstances.

You are now able to progress smoothly through to a Master qualification, with our unique, practical delivery model. In some cases you are able to select between our interactive online approach or classroom based learning (or a combination of both); however this is subject to availability. Please contact us for more information.

The diagram included below aims to help you understand how you can seamlessly progress your engineering career with EIT in a successful way. The options include: part-time and full-time study mode; pathways with and without credit; and suitable "exit" or "rest" points that allow you to earn accredited and valuable qualifications while you continue to work. EIT Diagram Routes to Engineering Career Success

Students from the Advanced Diploma courses will generally have one or more of the following standards:
  • Sound experience in engineering and/or technical skills and knowledge
  • Proven competency in most of the fundamentals of the course
  • A higher education qualification in engineering
These courses would most likely not be suitable for graduates with no industry experience.

The registration procedure will require completion of a summary of education and work background which will be reviewed by EIT staff. If a student has not achieved the required standards in their career, there are alternative entry pathways that can be discussed with each individual.

For students who have already established significant experience and have successfully completed previous study, there may be opportunity for recognition of prior learning (RPL). Contact us to find out more.

Boost your professional development

Continuing professional development is an important and ongoing process that ensures you continue to be competent in your profession throughout your whole career. Well planned continuing professional development helps safeguard the general public, the employer, the professional and the professional’s career.

A common way of measuring professional development is through Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are required by a number of companies, and in many states of the USA for example, for the continued licensing of engineers and technicians. Students earn 1 CEU for every 10 instructor contact hours. This means that an EIT Professional Certificate of Competency course is valued at 1 CEU, the Diploma of Leadership and Management at 7.5 CEUs, an 18 month Advanced Diploma at 12 CEUs and a 24 month Advanced Diploma at 15.5 CEUs.

CEUs can be converted to PDHs (Professional Development Hours). One CEU is valued at 10 PDHs. This is a universal conversion. PDHs are sometimes referred to as PDUs which stands for Professional Development Units - these terms are interchangeable.

EIT's CEUs are awarded through the IEEE. IEEE is internationally recognized and students do not need to be a member of any society in order to qualify for them. IEEE is accredited by IACET, which is the accrediting body for professional development awards (CEUs/PDHs). Students cannot seek this certificate directly through the IEEE. IEEE requires the institition to do it on behalf of the students. IEEE will send the certificate to the student via email and include the CEUs earned on their international database so that any employer can access it if necessary.

The IEEE CEU certificates are internationally recognized; this meand that any country requiring CEU/PDH from engineers/technicians should recognize this certificate.  Contact us to find out more.
