Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) Academic Board
Academic governance is the responsibility of the Academic Board which is created by the Governing Board. The Academic Board is chaired by the Dean, who is also a member of the Governance Board.
Purpose
- To provide guidance to the Governance Board on the setting and maintenance of academic standards within the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT).
- To manage the day-to-day academic administration.
Structure
- Dean of Engineering (Chair).
- CEO of Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) (ex officio)
- IDC representatives (1+)
- Teaching staff representatives (2) (nominated by Governing Board)
- Other invited members as appropriate (nominated by Governing Board)
Goals
- To set academic standards (at least to the equivalent standard of other Australian and international universities) for:
- Academic standards and achievement
- Teaching excellence
- Academic integrity and independence
- To develop policies relating to academic standards and operations.
Responsibilities
Academic Board Member Roles
To determine and set academic standards for:
- Module and Course content
- Teaching and delivery methods
- Examinations
- Assessment policies
- Admission requirements and standards
- To monitor student admissions and progress.
- To award appropriate Degrees and Diplomas and other awards and/or prizes for academic achievement
- To analyse and review the feedback from student questionnaires annually and report findings to the Governance Board
Dean of Engineering: Responsible for the monitoring of academic standards and the development of policies relating to academic standards. The Dean Chairs the Academic Board.
CEO of Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT): Provides input from the Governing Board’s perspective.
IDC Representatives (1+): Provides input from staff responsible for administration of student enrolments, progress and examinations.
Teaching Staff Representatives (2): Provide input from a teaching staff perspective.
Other invited members: Provide specialist input as required.
Operation of Academic Board
The Board meets at least three times each calendar year, and at other times as appropriate or as requested by the Dean.
Decisions of the Academic Board are recorded in the minutes of their meetings. Minutes of each meeting are confirmed at a subsequent meeting.
A quorum for a meeting of the Board is a minimum of four members, including the Dean.
